Setia Law’s Danny Ong Appointed Senior Counsel

12 January 2026, Singapore — Setia Law is pleased to share that its Managing Director, Danny Ong, has been appointed Senior Counsel. The appointment was announced by The Honourable the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon this morning at the Opening of the Legal Year.
The distinction of Senior Counsel is conferred on advocates who have demonstrated exceptional ability, deep mastery of the law, and the highest standards of professionalism, together with sustained contributions to the development of the legal profession and the wider community.
Danny is a career commercial advocate known for his disputes and investigations work on behalf of corporates and financial institutions at critical junctures. For over two decades, he has been at the forefront of market-shaping litigation, including matters arising from the Lehman Brothers collapse and the liquidations of MF Global, OW Bunker, and BSI Bank. Danny is particularly regarded for his work in cross-border asset recovery, fraud, and financial crime. He is consistently recognised over the course of the last decade for his specialism by leading international legal publications. He serves as Co-Chair and Executive Director of International Chamber of Commerce’s FraudNet, a global network of fraud and asset recovery specialists in over 80 countries.
Danny grew up in Ipoh, Malaysia, before moving to Singapore to pursue his studies on a Singapore governmental scholarship. He went on to study law at the National University of Singapore and began building his legal career in Singapore and Hong Kong. Prior to Setia Law, Danny was a Partner with Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP between 2008 and 2023, serving as Deputy Head of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice from 2014 to 2015, and on the Executive Committee from 2016 to 2023.
In 2023, Danny and Yam Wern-Jhien founded Setia Law as a specialist disputes and crisis management practice. Under Danny’s leadership, the firm has been involved in several significant matters before Singapore’s highest courts, and was recently recognised in the 2025 edition of the Chambers Asia-Pacific guide across all its core practice areas (disputes, investigations, and restructuring and insolvency) just two years after its founding.
